Hosting the Holy Spirit

James 4:8: "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you."

Sometimes I’m a bad hostess.

Now, before you go off and cancel any future dinner plans at my house … let me explain.

I love the Lord and I love having Him be a part of my day but sometimes I’m not the best in letting Him into all the places of my life.

I also love to have people over and I enjoy putting cute arrangements of food together and making my guests feel welcomed.

Yesterday, before I got out of my truck for work, the Lord whispered . . . invite the Holy Spirit into your day. I thought, what do you mean?

“Invite me into your day, like you do your best friend when you’re going to hang out with her. I just want to sit with you and be with you. My relationship with you doesn’t have to be like a prepared feast at your house. I just want to do life with you. In every capacity.”

I had one of those, oh …. moments. With everything going on lately, I can see how I have perhaps just said to the Lord metaphorically, “No, this is too messy don’t come in yet. Let me fix this or that first and then you can come in Lord.”

I kid you not, before I turned my truck off, what message came up? It was a pastor saying, invite the Holy Spirit into your day. I took that as confirmation as to what the Lord was trying to tell me.

I challenge you today, where do you need to let the Holy Spirit come in? Your workplace, marriage, every day tasks, or maybe even your drive to work?

Draw near to Him and He will to you.
