Unto the least…

The girls and I came home from running errands and my oldest daughter said, “What is that black thing in the tree?”

To that I responded, “What are you talking about, I only see 2 mockingbirds. “

She said, “It’s right there behind the main branch.” From her perspective on her side of the vehicle, she saw a black something in the tree.

I got out to change my perspective and as I approached the tree, I could see it was a huge crow inching towards a mockingbird nest. I assumed it was trying to get to the eggs as that is what they usually do. I ran to the tree to help shoo it away. As I did, the two mocking birds chased the crow into the air and around to the back of the house into the horse pasture.

The little baby chicks were now safe in their eggs.

I couldn’t stand the thought of not helping the mockingbirds out. I felt bad for the little vulnerable chickees inside their eggs.

I know the scripture Matthew 25:40 speaks about how we as Christ followers are to help serve people. And as we do so – it is like us serving the Lord himself.

“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

I also know that scripture is referencing to humans not little birdie chickees. However, it was all too close of an parallel to me.

We can’t get too busy to where we’re unwilling to sometimes change our perspective to help out “the least of these.”

In a world full of chaos and turmoil I plea with you to look around you to see where you can fill a void. That God would give you His eyes for a moment to see people as He sees them. Valuable and worth some form of kindness.
